Hey everyone !!

I hadn't posted here since my last post.. nor has anyone else, but I thought I would update. I did well in the race I ran a few weeks ago... finished it in 32 min 26 sec. I am actually running another one in the morning so hopefully I'll do as well in that one...

On a scale value, I'm finally down to 138... I lost 3.6 to put me at 137.2 then I gained .8 to put me at 138 even. The bright side is that I am still below 140 and last time I was below 140 I gained 5 pounds and spent almost 8 months trying to get it to go away and stay away!! Though as soon as I get to matinence, I will have confidence in myself to be able to maintain. The downside? I gained! Oh well. My goal for this up coming week is to loose 2 pounds. Cross my fingers :)

So how about ideas to not go toooo far off for the 4th?
How do holidays affect all of you with your weight loss goals?

I've not been doing too well the last about month... after the trip to L.A. just haven't gotten back on well. Got to change, now though!

I got 1/2 fat/cal chips I like for tomorrow, and watermelon. Along with sandwiches with my lite bread I think I can do well.

Now if only I could a) do the water! and b) do the nordic track!!

What's up? Or hopefully down?
Hee hee since we are trying to loose weight I thought I'd better change it to what's down. :-D

The good news is I really didn't gain over the whole trip for the wedding. The bad news is I haven't really started up again too well. I'm not giving up though, I'm going to get back on again. I'm still do some things to make sure I won't gain at least.

Would love to hear from all of you that haven't introduced yourself yet. :-) Feel free to spread the word about this group, too.

How about a book club?
I was wondering if anyone in this community is interested in starting a book club. If you came over from Christian wives, dncr119 (a.k.a. Holly) and I are already starting one over there. That community will be having a book club that has to do with being a christian wife.I thought this community could have a book selection that has something to do with christian weight loss. I have a couple books that might be of interest:

My own support team
My husband is a smoker and even though His overall cholesterol is good (about 160) His bad cholesterol is higher than it should be and His good cholesterol is lower than it should be. The doctor said to quit smoking or start working out. So He has started walking with Me. He is going to be 30 this year and so I have been pressing Him to take His health a little more seriously. We have been cutting down on red meat, processed foods, and refined sugar. That has helped Him and I so far. Plus, it doesn't do any harm to have the kids eating healthier at their young ages (19 month old girl and 4 year old boy).
I feel completely great about making this fitness and nutrition (and hopefully soon when my hubby stops smoking) a family affair. I don't want to bog the kids down with calories, fat, or body image. But just making eating about being healthy seems like a good idea. In fact today we all went for a walk. Well, they walked a little and then rode in a stroller the rest of the way. We go walking at a nearby park with a beautiful trail and it leads to a little play ground. So after we were done walking we took them to the playground to play. It was a lot of fun and doing it as a family makes it even better.
After our walk we went to Wendy's. I don't know if they have them every where. So if they don't, it's like McDonald's, Burger king, sonic, etc, etc. I ordered myself a side salad and my husband a regular burger meal. I didn't super-size His meal or anything. That way I had my salad and Him and I split the high calorie stuff like the small soda and fries. I ordered the kids chicken nugget meals. Instead of them both getting fries I ordered one with fries and one with the mandarin orange fruit cup. Plus, they both got 1% chocolate milk to drink. I split the oranges and the fries between them and they loved it. Now was this the healthiest lunch ever no, but it's certainly healthier than we usually eat when we eat out.
But isn't that what it's all about? Little changes in everyday things that add up to a healthier life? All I know is that my family appears to be on the right tract to health. Plus, getting healthier as a family means never running out of support :)

What are some of your favorite low calorie snacks? I will do so good with my eating, then get bored with it and fall off the wagon. How do you keep your motivation when you hit a slump?

Well I was down three pounds, but today I think I ate enough to gain it all back. I was so hungry for junk- I ate two pieces of pizza, cheese sticks, a butterfinger and had a cappucinno and like 4 classes of regular coke. Grrr. Why do I work so hard to lose the weight only to binge and gain it all back. Oh well- the food was good. It was worth every stinking calorie!!!!! tomorrow I will do better.
12:25 am
I am down 3 more pounds yay! It's so nice to see the scale moving. Wait let me rephrase that- it's so nice to see the scale moving down! I am about 6-10 pounds from my goal and feeling pretty good. Lately we have been cooking our meals from the Body For Life cook book. I highly reccomend it. The recipes are easy, healthy and good. I got the weight watchers cook book, but I wasn't to impressed. A lot of the recipes had weird or hard to find foods. The BFL cook book has an awesome recipe for enchiladas that don't even taste like diet food. There's an awesome quiche in there too. Also I have discovered the wal-mart version of crystal light. It has zero calories and is sugar free and counts as your daily water intake. The fruit punch is my favorite. My two year old loves it to.

Well I hope everyone is doing well. Have a great night.

Hi! I'm Rikki-Lea, I'm 24, and I saw this group and though I'd join :) It was nice to see it exists!

I have been struggling with my health for a long time, and I just found something I think might really help. I'm really excited about it!

So this is pretty cool.

I was going through the local "what's going on in Niagara" section in my newspaper just to, ya know, see what's going on, and I saw this thing called Coast-to-Coast Calorie Counters.
So I thought I'd give them a call and see what they're all about.
I guess every Monday night they meet and go over foods eaten, there's a nutritionist on hand that tells you what you can substitute for something iffy you ate, to something better. You also fill out a doctor paper thingie, and from that they figure out how many calories a day you need to take in to lose weight.
Through the summer they do weigh-ins, but only in the summer. Not sure what the point of that is though.

It's $40 to join, $2.50 a week. $2 because they have to rent the room it takes place in, and $.50 goes into a draw or something like that.

And the best part is, it's at my old church, which is just a walk away, although... I don't think I'll be walking for a while.

I'm really excited about this! It's in a place where I've been many times, and I'm very comfortable with. I'm a little nervous about being around new people, so I'm hoping Geoff will join too. That would really help. But the lady I talked to sounded very nice, and quite excited to be talking to me, so I think I'll be okay.

I'm really really nervous, anxious, excited. Now I have to wait for Monday to come. heh.

The forbidden fruit
I was flipping through one of Joyce Meyer's books- "Eat and Stay Thin"- when I came across something that really made me have an ah ha moment. She was talking about when Eve ate the forbidden fruit... How many times have you heard people claim that they would not have eaten the fruit. But if you think about all of the things that we put into our bodies that we shouldn't- it's kind of the same thing. (Joyce explained it much more eloquently) I have been trying to think of things like that. God wants us to be happy and healthy and not so body conscious- we won't die if we eat the bad stuff, but there will be consequences- ie no bikinis this season. I don't know- it kind of put things n a different perspective.

Also I read another really great tip in Oxygen magazine. It said that when you go to the grocery store- shop on the outside aisles only. If you think about how a supermarket is set up- on the outside is dairy, produce, and meats. The inside aisles are mostly processed foods which are usually more fattening. also not seeing the bad foods on the inner aisle lessens the temptation to buy them.

My goal for this week is to lose 2 pounds. So far I have been eating very healthy and low calorie- however I did have a small break down with about half a bag of M&M's. Now if only I could bring myself to get on my treadmill (but then I'd have to move all of my clothes ha ha).

Hey all!
How are things going? I'm doing pretty good.... still loosing slow but steady. Seems like it will take a long time... turned down JJ North's with the family the other day even!! And it paid off.... almost 2# for the week. :-) Have my initial goal coming up May 20th and I've got about 6# to go. So even if I don't make it I'll be close. Now to make myself get on the elipptical every day!!!

Thoughts and idea's
So I just finished another round of yo-yoing!! I start eating right, exercising, and reading my bible. Than something happens. I get sick and stop exercising, I get stressed and start eating junk, or I get to busy to read the word. It's always something. Than I say, I'll eat better when I'm less stressed, I'll work out more when I feel better, or I'll start reading the word starting tomorrow!! If I maintained my weight loss plan with as much energy as I generate excuses I would never have a weight problem!! Well, I have been busier than usual and a little more stressed than usual. We have a lot coming up in May and I am still going to make a plan and stick to it. No more, I'll start when life is perfect. I have been waiting for life to be perfect for years and all it has done it helped me to pack on and maintain an extra 60 to 80 pounds. My body and certainly my spirit is tired of this struggle. What would it mean to me to get up and not feel my body ache under this extra weight? What would it mean to me to eat something and not worry about the calorie count, fat gram, glycemic load or point that food contained? I can't even fathom it. I am choosing to make a plan and I am choosing to make a promise to myself. I will end every month lighter than I started. If it's an ounce, a pound, or more (God willing) it will be lighter.
I was hoping that we could start something in this community. It's been really quite around this journal lately. So I was hoping maybe we could read the same book or maybe meditate on one bible passage or story a week. Then on a designated day, we could all post on that particular topic and share idea's. It doesn't necessarily be about weight. Just being in the word helps to cultivate all the skills needed for a healthy life. What are you thoughts about this idea? Let Me know. I hope you are all having a blessed evening :)
